AnnotatED Workshop with Rajiv Jhangiani at OLC Accelerate 2021

Description

Making reading active, visible, and social with collaborative annotation

Annotate with Dr. Rajiv Jhangiani, Accelerate Keynoter, along with his black and white headshot and OLC Accelerate 2021 and Hypothesis logos.

In collaboration with the Online Learning Consortium and AnnotatED, the community for annotation in education, on Friday, 17 Sep 2021, Hypothesis convened a free virtual workshop on social annotation to kick off OLC Accelerate 2021.

The workshop started with a quick orientation to collaborative annotation for social reading: What is it, and how are people using it to enrich online, face-to-face, and hybrid learning?

Then we shifted to a hands-on activity to explore, discuss, and augment readings selected by our special guest educator, Dr. Rajiv Jhangiani, Associate Vice President, Teaching and Learning at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, focused on topics related to his OLC Accelerate 2021 keynote: 20/21: A Pedagogical Odyssey.

We practiced reading together to see firsthand how social annotation can build understanding, connections, and community. Our conversation was anchored in text — literally — and spread out to engage other texts, ideas, and people beyond the workshop itself.

Selected readings

You can read Hardwick’s post and annotations already added to its margins, and join the conversation by creating a free Hypothesis account and reply to or post your own annotations.
